ABOUT
Me!
Kia ora, my name is Eryn. I'm a marriage celebrant based in Whanganui, New Zealand (but I love the excuse to visit pals in other places and travel)! If I'm the right celebrant for you and your wedding, then I'm going to be finding out a bit about you. I thought it was only fair to share a little about me so that you can decide if I'm the right celebrant for you!
Being a celebrant is my part-time gig! I'm a recent Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington) import, having moved to Whanganui with the dream of living more rurally and in community with friends (and eventually goats and pigs). Right now I'm loving having a giant backyard full of citrus trees and a bit more time in my life to make art at my studio. For mahi, I'm General Manager at Whanganui Kai Hub, a food rescue organisation, and my working history has been in community arts and wider community development. I'm passionate about grassroots community action, collective care, and challenging systems that leave people behind, and I believe in building and nurturing communities for positive change through fostering a sense of belonging and supporting people's wellbeing.
I love holding a space. Whether that's just a few of your nearest and dearest, or your whole wedding crowd waiting on the edge of their seats, I love entertaining people and making sure everyone feels part of the moment. I also enjoy the spotlight when it's mine to have, but I can assure you, it's not mine to have during your wedding day! I save that for when I'm doing improv and acting - two hobbies of mine. I also love craft and art making (the non-performance kind), cuddling animals, plotting the downfall of capitalism, sharing laughs with friends, and having a kani kani to good music.
I became a celebrant several years back when some of my good friends asked me to, I'll do anything on a dare (jokes)! However, I can credit them for encouraging me to start on this journey. I could see a gap in the market for someone like me, a bit quirky, youthful, colourful and alternative, on the right side of mad! Where is the punk to marry the punks? Where are all the geeky pop culture references in wedding ceremonies? Where are the gags that even ya gran will find funny?
I'm a bit older now, so not sure I can corner the youth market anymore! But I am a total and hopeless romantic who enjoys writing. But more than that, I enjoy people and hearing their stories. Weddings are happy occasions and I've found it so humbling to be a part of people's day. It's not something I expected to love doing, but here I am lovin' it! I've done loads of public speaking and facilitation work in my other professional lives, so you can feel confident, that I feel confident!
So that's a wee bit of my story… I'd love to hear yours, and I'd love to help you craft that story into a day that is uniquely you!
